About Us

***IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT***

TYHP FEE INCREASE EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 1, 2023

In response to recent inflationary factors, TYHP must increase the Hunt Fee from $150 to $200 for TYHP hunts effective February 1, 2023.

The last time we had to make an increase was 2014. We followed the same process in this circumstance. We analyzed the 2013 cost of several commodities and their 2022 cost using data from the US Bureau of labor and statistics, and found increases ranging from 20% to 35%. Thus, our rationale was to increase the TYHP Hunt Fee by 25% to $200. We presented the proposed fee increase to the TYHP Advisory Committee in December 2022. The advisory committee supported our recommendation. With the Advisory Committee’s endorsement, we presented the fee increase to the TWA Executive Committee at the January 2023 Meeting, TWA Executive Committee voted on and approved the increase.

Beginning in February the Fee for a 3-day hunt will increase to $200. A one-day hunt will be $67 and a two-day hunt will be $135. We believe this is still a great value for hunting with food, lodging and insurance. As always, we have scholarships for those who need it.

In response to a declining number of youth hunters in the state, the Texas Wildlife Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department organized the Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP) in 1996. To date, TYHP has provided over 79,226 Texans with safe, educational, outdoor experiences while instilling an appreciation for the valuable role private landowners and hunters play in wildlife conservation.

Join the Texas Youth Hunting Program

The Texas Wildlife Association (TWA) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) have joined forces to offer youth hunts that are safe, educational and very affordable. We sponsor introductory, instructive youth hunts for deer, turkey, hogs, javelina, exotics, dove, small game, waterfowl, varmints and other species. Normally, we provide mentors, lodging and meals.

To join the Texas Youth Hunting Program, you must...

  • Be 9 to 17 years old.
  • Complete the Texas Hunter Education Program and be able to provide a copy of your certificate.

Please consider giving the gift of hunting through a tax deductible donation that will be used to provide memorable experiences that expose Texans to nature, conservation, and responsible and safe hunting.  The Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP) takes over a thousand youths and their adult companion on hunts every season. For many participants, this is their first opportunity to explore nature's classroom and most become life-long supporters of Texas' rich natural resources.  TYHP teaches all participants about the important role that landowners and hunters play in wildlife conservation.
