Any Kid Can Hunt – Remembering Mr. John Mott

Since 2019, Mr. John Mott graciously opened his ranch to the Texas Youth Hunting Program, giving hundreds of young hunters and their families the chance to experience the outdoors and learn about conservation. His generosity and commitment to youth education left a lasting mark on our program and on everyone who hunted alongside him. Robert Galvan and his daughter Lana were the last Huntmasters to lead a youth hunt on Mr. Mott’s ranch, and Lana has shared a heartfelt tribute in his honor.

My family and I are deeply saddened by the passing of a truly remarkable man. Mr. John Mott was known for his quiet strength, unwavering kindness,
and the way he always put others before himself. As the founder of the Any Kid Can Hunt foundation and sponsor in the Texas Youth Hunting Program,  Mr. Mott dedicated his life to giving kids the opportunity to experience the joy and beauty of the outdoors. It was because of Mr. Mott’s generosity that I was able to have been one of those kids. Because of his strive to do for others, I was able to harvest some of my childhood dream animals such as the beautiful blackbuck pictured.

Whether through his words or his actions, he left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. His presence brought warmth and comfort, and his absence will be felt deeply by all who loved him. Though he may be gone, his legacy of love and integrity will live on in our hearts forever. We love you Mr. John and you will be dearly missed…….Lana Cirelo.

Texas Youth Hunting Program

In response to a declining number of youth hunters in the state, the Texas Wildlife Association and Texas Parks and Wildlife Department organized the Texas Youth Hunting Program (TYHP) in 1996. To date, TYHP has provided over 55,000 Texans with safe, educational, outdoor experiences while instilling an appreciation for the valuable role private landowners and hunters play in wildlife conservation.
